The iconic Hilton Hotel in Nairobi’s Central Business District is set to shut its doors indefinitely after 53 years of being at the centre of the capital's action, from the early days of independence.
The announcement was made by The International Hotels Kenya Limited, which manages the hotel, and the closure will be effective from the December 31, 2022. The decision to cease operations was not entirely attributed to the Covid-19 pandemic
As a result, some employees will be retrenched while others will be redeployed to their other outlets within the city, Hilton Nairobi Hurlingham and Hilton Garden Inn Nairobi Airport.
Hilton CBD began operations in 1969 and has 287 rooms including 45 twins, 185 doubles, seven suites, 22 pool rooms, and 27 executive rooms.
The hotel has welcomed guests for more than 50 years. They are not shutting down operations in the country but will continue to grow the portfolio of their luxury brand with their other branches within Nairobi city.
